Study: A portrait of citizenship in Canada from the 2021 Census

In 2021, over 9 in 10 people living in Canada (91.2%) were Canadian citizens, either by birth or by naturalization. About four in five eligible immigrants (80.7%) were Canadian citizens.

Study: Disaggregated trends in poverty from the 2021 Census of Population

According to the 2021 Census of Population, the poverty rate in Canada decreased from 14.5% in 2015 to 8.1% in 2020. Driven by higher government transfers—including the enhanced Canada Child Benefit and temporary COVID-19 pandemic relief benefits—the poverty rate declined for all age groups, particularly for children. The poverty rate for one-parent families headed by a woman with a child aged 0 to 5 years fell by more than half, from 62.7% in 2015 to 31.3% in 2020.

Fact sheet: Children eligible for instruction in the minority official language: A data ecosystem

Today, Statistics Canada is releasing a new fact sheet titled “Children eligible for instruction in the minority official language: A data ecosystem.” This product provides information on the data ecosystem the agency is developing to enhance the availability of data on children eligible for instruction in the minority official language (i.e., English in Quebec and French in the rest of Canada). This ecosystem is composed of a set of complementary data sources providing information on this population.

Film, television and video post-production, 2021

The film, television and video post-production industry generated $2.0 billion in operating revenue in 2021, a 0.5% increase from 2019. Businesses in the industry were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with disruptions mostly beginning in the latter part of 2020. This continued into the early months of 2021 until more projects began to arrive as productions delayed by the pandemic wrapped up filming.
