The Mushkegowuk Youth (Hashtag)WALKOFHOPE will be Starting on Tuesday June 7 2016 at 11AM from Cochrane, Ontario

Press Release

(June 6, 2016, Moose Factory, ON) The Youth come from various Fist Nation communities from the north. #WALKOFHOPE is about hope and resiliency of the Mushkego Ininiwuk(People). Though there are many surmountable challenges that impacts the lives of the Mushkego Ininwuk, they continue for a prospective future of a healthy community.

The Mushkegowuk Youth Walkers will be walking to Niagara Falls, Ontario where the Chiefs from across Canada will be attending the Assembly of First Nations Annual Assembly. They are scheduled to arrive in Niagara Falls on July 9th on the first day of the AFN Chiefs Assembly. It is at this national Indigenous Leaders forum where the youth will be on the agenda to deliver their messages of hope for a healthy community and healthier lives. A message that calls on all First Nations leaderships and Governments to action.

Grand Chief Jonathan Solomon says; “This is our future…the future Leaders of tomorrow. The message they will carry with them is about real hope. A message to choose certainty over uncertainty. Instead of me seeing my future dying in front me as a Grand Chief of suicide, it gives me hope for my children, my grandchildren and youth of our great aski (land)”.

Through their journey, the Mushkegowuk Youth Walkers will have challenges physically, spiritually and mentally; but are determined and will support each other throughout their journey. In their journey they will look to their destination, to the finish line. Beyond that finish line is hope. Hope for a better future. Hope for a better outlook. Hope for a bright future. Hope for healthy communities and families.

I would like to say Meeg wetch (Thank you) to all the generous supporters who have contributed financially, for the supplies, equipment, food, accommodations, that have been donated and offered so far. I also would like to say Meeg Wetch to those First Nations, Organizations and Regional Organizations along the route that have stepped-up for this cause.

“I implore you for your prayers, support, and continued prayer for their safety and #WALKOFHOPE”. For more information please visit our website at www.mushkegowuk.com and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/walkofhopemc.

Meeg Wetch (Thank you)
