Press Release

October 21, 2025

FREDERICTON  – Today’s speech from the throne provided an outline of the government’s path forward on priority areas during this legislative session.

Lt.-Gov. Louise Imbeault read the speech on behalf of the government, opening the second session of the 61st legislature.

“Over the past year, we have seen the start of many positive changes in our province,” said Imbeault. “To further this trend, we must continue to challenge the status quo, be bold and think big as we work together to achieve our goals. This isn’t always easy, as the world shifts around us – but we can achieve great success with determination and persistence.”

The speech reiterated the government’s six priority areas and detailed its legislative and policy agenda. The priority areas are: health care, affordability and housing, education, economic development, environment and trusted leadership.

Initiatives for the year ahead include:

  • Building on the 10 community care clinics that will be operational by the end of 2025 and 10 more planned for 2026, work will continue toward establishing a total of 30 clinics across New Brunswick by 2028.
  • With free breakfasts now available in every school, work will continue toward launching a universal school lunch program by September 2026.
  • Building on initiatives now in place to improve interprovincial labour mobility, legislation will be introduced in the upcoming session aimed at removing trade barriers impeding the interprovincial flow of goods and services.
  • Continuing to support New Brunswick’s businesses, including the launch of an economic development strategy aimed at boosting productivity and attracting investment.

“One year ago, New Brunswickers asked us to focus on delivering change based on their priorities,” said Premier Susan Holt. “We are continuing to build momentum, and today we are accelerating the speed of change. We have laid out how we will move forward with both short-term measurable commitments and our longer-term work towards a brighter future for New Brunswickers.”

Details on initiatives tied to each priority area, as well as the complete text of the speech from the throne, are available online.
