Tobe named Chair of Aboriginal and Rural Health – The Sudbury Star

A “highly regarded investigator” has been given the job of finding ways to reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes in Northern Ontario.

Dr. Sheldon Tobe has been named as Chair in Aboriginal and Rural Health, based at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

The position was created by the medical school, which is based in Sudbury and Thunder Bay, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the ministry split the $3 million cost to create the research position. Using the money, the organizations have created an endowment that will support research endeavours well into the future.

In addition, the medical school has put up $1 million in start-up and operating funding.
