The CRD has made “government to government” deals with First Nations before, but this time, the deal comes with money to help the Tsartlip and Tseycum nations consult with the regional district.
The Capital Regional District has made a deal with two Saanich Peninsula First Nations to work together on matters ranging from waste management to economic development, billing the initiative as “a more inclusive approach to regional government.”
The CRD has made “government to government” deals with First Nations before, but this time, the deal — inked last week — comes with $50,000 in annual funding to help the Tsartlip and Tseycum nations consult with the regional district.
The $50,000 has to be approved by the CRD board annually and is distributed to W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council member nations, currently consisting of the Tsartlip and Tseycum nations.
