(xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil Waututh)/ Vancouver, B.C.) The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) is pleased to announce the appointment of several members to its Executive and as Active Members following elections held at the Chiefs Council Meeting this week, joining President Grand Chief Stewart Phillip who was elected at the October 2026 Annual General Assembly.
We are deeply honoured to welcome Chief Linda (Lou Ga Gwelks) Innes (Gitxaala) to the position of UBCIC Vice-President. Chief Innes brings extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to advancing the collective rights and interests of First Nations in British Columbia.
Chief Marilyn Slett (Heiltsuk (Haíɫzaqv)) has been re-elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer. Chief Slett has long provided steady leadership within UBCIC and continues to play a key role in advancing accountability, advocacy, and nation-to-nation relationships.
Elder Amelia (spec?ci) Washington has been re-appointed as Elder Representative, ensuring that the guidance, wisdom, and lived experience of Elders remain central to UBCIC’s work and decision-making.
Katisha Paul has been appointed as Women’s Representative, bringing forward the voices and priorities of Indigenous women and supporting UBCIC’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, leadership development, and community well-being. Katisha was previously in the Youth Representative role, and we are thrilled to welcome her in this new role.
Skw’akw’as (Sunshine) Dunstan-Moore, has been elected to the position of Youth Representative. This role ensures that the voices, perspectives, and priorities of Indigenous youth are represented within UBCIC’s leadership and advocacy work and supports the continued engagement of young people in advancing First Nations title, rights, and self-determination.
UBCIC looks forward to working with the newly appointed Executive members as they continue to advance First Nations title, rights, and self-determination throughout British Columbia.
