Ugpi’ganjig First Nation and Ugpi’ganjig Child & Family Services notify the Tribunal of their intention to seek Interested Party Status

We write as Chief of Ugpi’ganjig First Nation and Director of Ugpi’ganjig Child & Family Services regarding First Nations Child and Family Caring Society et al. v Attorney General of Canada (Tribunal File: T:1340/7008).

We understand that the Tribunal intends to establish a schedule on the approval motion for the Ontario Final Agreement between Chiefs of Ontario, Nishnawbe Aski Nation, and Canada.

We write to advise the tribunal that Ugpi’ganjig First Nation and Ugpi’ganjig Child & Family Services intends to file its own Motion for Interested Party Status in relation to the joint motion by Chiefs of Ontario and Nishnawbe Aski Nation. Ugpi’ganjig Child & Family Services may later seek leave from the Tribunal to file a motion for interested party status for another motion or generally. We are presently in the process of retaining legal counsel to represent us. Accordingly, I respectfully request the Tribunal’s permission to submit Ugpi’ganjig’s motion materials by April 14, 2025.
