Union Gas Supports Couchiching First Nation Roundhouse

$2,800 grant to develop cultural programs

Fort Frances, ON – Union Gas is providing Couchiching First Nation with a $2,800 grant to support the development of cultural programming at a new community Roundhouse. The Roundhouse will serve as a traditional teaching place for youth and other community members.

Wendy Landry, Union Gas manager of First Nations, Métis and Municipal Affairs presented the cheque to Couchiching First Nation Band Manager, Smokey Bruyere and Ed Yerxa Councillor at the Couchiching Band office.

“We believe that investing in education creates lasting benefits for people and communities,” said Landry. “That’s why we are pleased to support the development of cultural programs at the Couchiching First Nation Roundhouse.”

“This donation is very important to the people of Couchiching as it is a start towards having their own place for ceremonies and teachings to our most important resource, our children,” said Bruyere. “The community has been talking about having its own Roundhouse for many years and this will help jumpstart the process of getting their own teaching place.”

With our deep roots in Ontario, Union Gas has built a foundation of strong, mutually-beneficial relationships with First Nations and Métis peoples in the communities and regions where we operate. This is central to providing certainty to our business and supports the vision, purpose and values of the company’s Charter. For more information visit uniongas.com/community/aboriginal.
