Uqausirmut Quviasuutiqarniq Scavenger Hunt commences on Nunavut Day

The Department of Culture and Heritage is launching the Uqausirmut Quviasuutiqarniq Scavenger Hunt on Nunavut Day, July 9, 2025.

The theme is Nunarait Nunavummi, the plants of Nunavut. To celebrate Inuktut and the beautiful plants of our territory, we are inviting Nunavummiut to participate in the scavenger hunt. Here are the details:

  • The scavenger hunt is open to Nunavummiut aged six and up.
  • There are two categories: age six to 13, age 14 and up.
  • The hunt starts on July 9, 2025.
  • The deadline is August 31, 2025.
  • Participants must ‘hunt’ for plants on the tundra, take a photo, and research about them.
  • All photos submitted must be original and taken by the participant.
  • Prizes include niksik, kakivak, unaaq, qilauti, qulliq, ulu / pana kit with ipiksauti and a bike.
  • One winner per region and per category will be selected. There will be a special grand prize for one outstanding submission per category.
  • Children under the age of 14 will require parental or guardian supervision.

To participate, please submit your photos and findings to the appropriate age group on the GN website: 6 to 13 Age Group14+ Age Group. We encourage families across the territory to take this opportunity to go out on the land and share their knowledge about Nunarait Nunavummi.
