Waaban Chair Introduces Indigenous Design into Canada’s Workspaces

Saugeen First Nation, Ontario, Canada, April 7, 2026 — A new Canadian-made ergonomic chair is bringing Indigenous design into the spaces where decisions are made, reshaping how workplace environments are experienced and what they represent.

The Waaban Chair, meaning “dawn” or “new day” in Anishinabemowin, is a collaboration between eSupply Canada and ergoCentric Inc., bringing together Canadian manufacturing and Indigenous design in a product built for everyday use. It introduces a level of design and presence not typically found in workplace furniture.

Featuring the work of Mi’kmaq artist Tracey Metallic, the chair incorporates pattern, colour, and form directly into a fully engineered seating platform. The result is a product that performs at a high level while contributing to the identity of the spaces it occupies, from boardrooms and offices to home work environments.

Manufactured in Canada and built to order, the chair is constructed on ergoCentric’s airCentric™ 2 platform, offering full adjustability, breathable support, and long-term durability. It meets the expectations of premium ergonomic seating while carrying a distinct design language grounded in Indigenous perspective.

Its release comes at a time when organizations are placing greater attention on the role their environments play in expressing values and identity. Materials, origin, and design are no longer secondary considerations. They are part of how spaces are crafted and experienced.

“Until recently, Indigenous voices have been largely absent from the spaces where important decisions are made. That is beginning to change. The Waaban Chair accelerates that change by bringing Indigenous design into those environments, adding presence and inviting conversation about what those spaces represent,” said Steven Vanloffeld, Founder of eSupply Canada and creator and launch partner of the Waaban Chair.

Each chair also contributes to a broader impact. A donation of $20 from every unit sold supports Indspire, Canada’s leading Indigenous education charity, helping advance educational outcomes for Indigenous students across the country.

The Waaban Chair sets a new standard for how Indigenous design and Canadian manufacturing come together to shape the spaces where decisions are made and what those spaces represent.
