Once the report on information gathered by the First Peoples Group was released in April 2024, the university began drafting the Indigenous Verification Policy and Procedures, which is now open to the university community for feedback.
After the 2023 removal of then-Memorial University president Vianne Timmons for false claims of indigeneity, MUN commissioned Indigenous-owned and led consulting firm the First Peoples Group to examine its current policies, practices, and protocols on Indigenous verification.
The group has also hosted a wide range of consultation sessions to offer recommendations to support Memorial University in the development of an Indigenous verification protocol.
