OBSERVATIONS
Bill S-2 An Act to amend the Indian Act (new registration entitlements
The ongoing “Second Generation Cut-Off” debate between federal government who want more consultation and First Nations groups across the country who believe there has been enough consultation, continues. Legislation potentially impacts hundreds of thousands of First Nations citizens – according to First Nations protocols NOT the governments – who have been denied services

Missing Children and Burial Information
Canada refused to attend the Permanent Peoples Tribunal on Missing Children and Unmarked Graves held in Montreal. The tribunal declared that Canada “had committed genocide against Indigenous peoples in residential schools and other institutions.” “We see continuing disdain for Indigenous lives, denial other sovereignty over their data, their land, and their bodies and other violations of Indigenous peoples’ rights,” said panel judge Deanna Howard
TB in Inuit territory
Canada failed in its commitment to eliminate TB by 50% by 2025 in Inuit Nunangat due to a failure to provide adequate funding. Meanwhile TB in Nunavik (Northern Québec) is 1000x the rate for non-Indigenous Canadians.
Indigenous Health in Québec
Government of Québec continues to deny evidence of systemic racism and discrimination within the Quebec healthcare system. Las month the Nunavik Regional Board of Health signed a 2-year sole-source contract with the Red Cross to help control TB after Québec failed to provide needed support.
