Oil Drum Clean Up And Removal From Beach

Press Releases

August 26, 2015 (Iqaluit, Nunavut) The City of Iqaluit, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Environment are working together to clean up old oil drums from the Iqaluit beach between the Canadian Coast Guard and the old cemetery.

Residents are being notified that all oil drums on the Iqaluit beach will be removed starting Thursday September 10, 2015. If residents have oil drums on the beach, they are asked to relocate them. Unused oil drums are a hazard for people and the environment, and must be removed.

Any remaining oil drums on the beach will be taken to the landfill, processed, and then shipped to southern Canada for disposal.

This is part of a larger cleanup project to make our beach a safe, clean and healthy place to be. Please respect our land by keeping it tidy.
