2015 Proposed Resolutions to Amend the Constitution of NunatuKavut

Resolution # 1

Moved by Jim Holwell, seconded by Roxanne Notley

Whereas Article #25 of the Constitution currently extends voting rights to full members- resident only, and;

Whereas NCC consulted with its membership during the 2014 AGA process on extending the process to allow voting to non-resident members, and;

Whereas the response of the membership on this consultation was favorable; and

Whereas in the spirit of the aforementioned consultation, NCC wishes to implement an extension of the voting to full members – non resident;

Therefore be it resolved that Article # 25 be reworded as follows:

“Every full member, sixteen (16) years of age and over, shall be eligible to vote.”

Whereas Article # 34 of the Constitution currently reads “Nominations shall be signed by candidate and two other full – members residents”, and:

Whereas NCC is a growing organization with increasing duties and commitments for elected officials that require an increased commitment level, and:

Whereas NCC is attempting to increase the involvement of full members – non-resident in the elections process; and,

Whereas expanding the process for nomination is one way to gauge the commitment of the candidate, and to involve more of the membership in the elections process;

Therefore, be it resolved that Article # 34 be amended to read:

“Nominations shall be signed by the candidate and ten other full members. Nominees shall pay any applicable fees for filing of their nomination papers.”
