QIA Welcomes Proposals for the Second Round of the Ilagiiktunut Fund, 2015-16

Press Releases

(October 22, 2015, Iqaluit, NU) – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is now accepting proposals for the second call-out of the Ilagiiktunut as part of the funding cycle 2015-16.

The Ilagiiktunut Fund is an element of the Mary River Project Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA). It has been established by the joint contributions of Baffinland Iron Mine Corporation (BIMC) and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association. The Fund itself is administered by QIA.

The Fund has been established because QIA and Inuit have recognized the need to make important improvements in community capacity, particularly in this period of growth and change brought on by natural resource developments within the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut.

The Ilagiiktunut Fund is one of the tools that we use to enable such advances within communities impacted by the Mary River Project. During the first round of the Ilagiigktunut Fund, a total of 11 projects were approved. The total amount of funding available the second call-out of the Ilagiiktunut Fund is $421,191.
