Job Information Under the direct supervision of the Daycare Director, the Educator implements an educational program with activities designed to ensure the overall development of the children entrusted to him/her; ensures the children’s health, safety and well-being; and accomplishes various tasks related to her functions.

Main duties :

  • Plan and prepare educational activities enabling the development of all dimensions of the individual.
  • Accompany and supervise children in their activities and encourage them to adapt and integrate into community life.
  • Observe and measure the child’s progress and behavior.
  • Develop a relationship with the parents, and discuss the child’s development with them; mainly when children are arriving or departing from the service.
  • Collaborate in designing individualized intervention plans for children with special needs and ensures their application.
  • Guide children in the activities of everyday living, in particular, diet, hygiene, dress, and personal care, by fostering autonomy and healthy habits.

Qualifications required:

  • High school diploma ;
  • College studies or degree in Early Childhood Education ;
  • At least 2 years’ experience ;
  • Ability to work in a team and with children ;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledgeable of First Nations culture ;
  • Excellent communication skills in English ;
  • Mi’gmaq and French language an asset ;
  • Must have a valid Medicare card.

Profile of the ideal candidate:

  • Autonomous, possessing decision-making skills, excellent judgment.
  • Physically active.
  • Sensitive to the social and cultural dynamics of First Nations communities, experience working in a First Nation context would be preferable.
  • Skillful in planning and organisation.

Hiring priority:

Given to Gesgapegiag Registered Band Members followed by other Mi’gmaq followed by other First Nations individuals.

Salary:

$18.18/hour (32 hours per week) Job location: Gesgapegiag (Quebec) Date of assumption of duties: September 2016 All applications will be treated in a confidential manner.
