Province Supporting Indigenous Communities to Train and Build Skilled Workforce
February 27, 2018
Ontario is supporting Indigenous communities in Southeastern Ontario to build their workforce through training programs and infrastructure projects.
The support includes funding for the Aboriginal Labour Force Development Circle in Tyendinaga to deliver Developing Our Future–Phase II, a program that will provide participants with educational and career development support to find jobs. This may mean completing grade 12, pursuing a trade, receiving help to start a new business or accessing apprenticeship opportunities. The program also helps clients overcome mental and emotional barriers to success.
Supporting economic growth for Indigenous communities is one of the many steps on Ontario’s journey of healing and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. It reflects the government’s commitment to work with Indigenous partners, creating a better future for everyone in the province.

“The collaborative approach from everyone involved with ‘Developing Our Future, Phase I’ had such a positive effect on our people, with over 60 clients receiving some form of training/employment, that we sought assistance from the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation once again; thankfully Phase II was supported by the Ministry. The Ministry’s assistance as well as the combination of all parties involved will contribute to a successful Phase II. Strength is truly in numbers. A heartfelt thank you to everyone.”
