City of Iqaluit: Public Consultation on New Landfill and Waste Management Facility

NOVEMBER 2, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City will be holding a public consultation on the new Solid Waste Management Plan, to provide more detailed information as well as hear comments and questions from residents regarding this project.

What: Public Consultation on new Solid Waste Management Plan

Where: Qajuqturvik Food Centre

Location: Building 655, Mattaaq Crescent

Date: November 15, 2018

Time: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Residents will be able to view artist renderings of the proposed new landfill, new solid waste facility, and remediation of the old landfill from 6:30 PM to 7 PM. The viewing will be followed by a brief presentation about the project, and a question and answer session, where the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Director of Public Works and technical experts will be available to answer questions and hear comments from residents interested in this project.

The session will cover:

• Details of the new solid waste facility, including recycling and composting;
• New landfill management plan; and
• Remediation of old landfill, including covering the site with tundra.

Information regarding waste pick-up under the new system will be provided at a later date, and will not be included in this consultation.

Residents can also submit a question or written comment in advance, by sending an email to solidwaste@city.iqaluit.nu.ca , or dropping off information in person to City Hall, to the attention of Public Works, before 4 PM on November 9th, 2018.
