City of Iqaluit: City Coordination with Government of Nunavut and Community Groups to Deal with Emergency Issues

NOVEMBER 8, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City has set-up a response and recovery command centre, and is working closely with the Government of Nunavut, retailers and other organizations in the city to assist in coordinating an emergency response and recovery effort to the fire this morning.

The City is advising residents of the following:

• Please keep clear of all roads in the area around Northmart, to allow emergency trucks and personnel to access the site;
• Stores have committed to increasing supplies;
• Elders have been evacuated from the Elders Home, and temporarily located to the Elder’s Qammaq.The Red Cross is providing assistance to the Elders as well.

The City is also asking residents to please continue to conserve water throughout this period.
