Ontario’s Government for the People is supporting Indigenous training and employment in Sault Ste. Marie’s information technology (IT) sector, creating 57 full-time jobs.

Today, Ross Romano, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced PLATO Testing is receiving more than $1.2 million to deliver IT training focused on preparing Indigenous people to become experts in software testing. The project will create well-paying jobs and fill talent shortages in the labour market.

“With our support, PLATO Testing is developing the next generation of professional software testers in Sault Ste. Marie,” said PA Romano. “We are diversifying the local economy, creating good jobs and supporting growth in this important sector. Above all, we are letting people know that Northern Ontario is open for business.”

PLATO Testing was established to bring meaningful employment opportunities to Indigenous people in the IT field.  Formed in December 2015 in New Brunswick, the organization’s long-term plans include expansion of operations throughout Canada.

“We’re optimistic about our future in Sault Ste. Marie,” said Keith McIntosh, Founder and CEO of PLATO Testing. “The Ontario government is more than just a funder. They support initiatives in Sault Ste. Marie that promote economic growth and success, attracting businesses like ours to the region. They also play a role in creating jobs for the people of Sault Ste. Marie and local Indigenous communities.”
