Leaders’ Cabinet joins fight against racism in Chatham-Kent – Chatham This Week

July 22, 2020

The Chatham-Kent Community Leaders’ Cabinet is throwing its support behind those fighting against racism and discrimination.

The group says it is stepping forward to join local and global conversations and calls to action.

“The vision of the (leaders’ cabinet) for Chatham-Kent is that ‘we are a thriving community that enhances quality of life,’” the group said in a news release on July 21. “We know that racism toward Black, Indigenous and racialized communities results in disproportionate harm to the quality of life of individuals and communities of colour.

“The (cabinet’s) mission is working together, across sectors, to build a community where quality of life is planned, developed and championed. In accordance with this, the cabinet has the responsibility to be attentive to and address systemic racism resulting in poorer quality of life for Black, Indigenous and racialized communities.”
