Alternative Care Resource Coordinator

Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Alternative Care & Resource Development of the Southern First Nations Network of Care (SFNNC), the incumbent is to act as a direct resource and liaison for the SFNNC with key collaterals and stakeholders. The incumbent reviews and submits referrals to the Provincial Placement Desk on behalf of SFNNC agencies. The incumbent provides consultation and expert advice to all the requests regarding emergency placements, which include, but are not including to, emergency foster homes and level 4 or 5 resources which are provided by on and off reserve Frist Nations child welfare agencies, under the SFNNC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate as the SFNNC representative for the Collaborative Authority Resource Team.
  • Develop and maintain a database of children and youth in Emergency Placement Resources (EPR) to track entries into EPR, trends and placement resource needs.
  • Confirm placement plans with agencies and EPR Coordinators for children and youth in EPR.
  • Submit referrals to the Provincial Placement Desk on behalf of agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a database of Provincial Placement desk referrals.
  • Provide assistance to agencies in accessing existing placement resources.
  • Meet regularly with EPR along with other third-party resources.
  • Meet regularly with the Provincial Placement Desk unit.
  • Consult and collaborate with mandated and non-mandated agencies, Authorities, government and non-government organizations, department staff, potential operators and service provides to create sustainable emergency and long-term placement resources across the province.
  • Provide EPR statistics to SFNNC agencies and CEO.
  • Work closely with and consult with senior manager and/or CEO in the development of policies and procedures related to EPR.
  • Liaison, consult, and work collaboratively with agencies to facilitate alternative care placements for children.
  • Provide assistance to agencies regarding external placement issues.
  • Develop, revise, review forms and data.
  • As needed, carry out the other activities related to the development of the strategy by setting appropriate targets and outcomes and by completing needs assessments.

Education & Experience:

  • BSW or equivalent in social services field. Experience in case management, alternative care, and placement resource.
  • Experience in Child Welfare must have at least two (2) years’ experience in the child welfare system or a combination of experience and education.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Child Welfare Legislation, relevant Standards and Regulations, AJI-CWI and this must be reflected in the work being completed.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse, family violence, child development, and child abuse/neglect and community resources are required. Demonstrated skills in areas of crisis intervention, abuse investigation and assessing high risk situations which may require immediate response.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience and familiarity with Microsoft software (Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Must have demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Culture and traditions.

Other Requirements:

  • Must Provide Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid Class 5 MB Driver’s License must have access to a reliable vehicle for business travel.
  • All successful candidates must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
