About Us

Halifax (Kjipuktuk) is hosting the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG 2023) July 15 to 23, 2023, which was postponed in 2020. NAIG 2023 will welcome approximately 5,000 Indigenous participants from across Turtle Island (North America) to participate in the largest multi-sport gathering in Atlantic Canada of Indigenous people since contact. NAIG 2023 has the opportunity to have about 3,000 volunteers in a celebration of Indigenous sport and culture across 17 sports and 7 days of cultural celebrations. NAIG 2023 is organized and executed by the NAIG 2023 Host Society, who is a not-for-proft organization and the employer of this opportunity.

Our Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Volunteer Manager, the Volunteer Training & Partnership Coordinator is responsible for managing the scheduling and delivery of the required training programs for NAIG 2023 volunteers and staff. The successful candidate will ensure the management, scheduling and accreditation of the volunteer groups throughout the games. These groups may include, but are not limited to, partner organizations, Communities, special interest and/or youth groups.

You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with departments, communities and organizations to ensure and support the delivery of a successful and meaningful volunteer program for the 3000+ volunteers.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Foster strong relationships and build strategies/policies to recruit within various communities and organizations throughout Atlantic Canada (Indigenous, Business, Organizations, Educational Institutions/offcers).
  • Manage and support the Youth Ambassador Program (Volunteer leadership program).
  • Create and conduct Volunteer Recruitment, Screening and Selection planning and process.
  • Conduct in-person/virtual interviews with volunteer candidates.
  • Collaborate with departments to understand Volunteer functions and needs to understand the opportunities/best placement/scheduling of special Volunteer Groups
  • Support, participate and promote with any pre-games events; including, recruitment, training, scheduling where required.
  • Support department directors and managers in summer student/work with suitability and placement
  • Develop and implement Volunteer Accreditation requirements/program games wide.
  • Manage GemsPro Group Volunteer database; schedule creation, individual profle management, document control and email contact structure.
  • Create and conduct virtual and in-person Volunteer Recruitment, Screening and Selection planning and process.
  • Develop, implement and enforce Volunteer and Workforce Policy & Procedures.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Volunteer Appreciation party.
  • Coordinating internal training, development and engagement opportunities that enhance a positive and inclusive work culture and environment, monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of these initiatives
  • Supporting the Volunteer Service Team as required with scheduling of Volunteer Ambassador, screening volunteers and other volunteer-related tasks
  • Other duties as reasonably required. Due to the nature of our organization, and especially during the time leading up to, and during the actual Games, all staff will be required to act in capacities beyond their formal job description.

Qualifcations

  • Education/Training/Certifcation in Volunteer Management or equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
  • Experience in recruitment and orientation/training of large groups.
  • Experience working with and preferably as a volunteer on large multi-faceted projects; considered an asset
  • French/Mi’kmaw Language skills; considered an asset.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Technical/ Job Specifc

  • High level of confdentiality
  • Working and hands on knowledge of the local communities including Indigenous groups, church, community and special interest groups
  • Comfortable being a forward facing promoter of the games and the volunteer experience
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.
  • Organization/Business social media experience considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team work ethic.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently and have good decision making skills.

Working Conditions

  • Anticipated start date: April 4, 2022; anticipated interviewing period March 14 – 18, 2022
  • Flexibility in hours, as there will be expectation for some evenings and weekends
  • Participating in volunteer engagement and training
  • Regular Travel within assigned geographic location may be required
  • Outdoor/event work in various types of weather may be required
  • Own reliable transportation required, including a valid Class 5 license
  • Satisfactory criminal record check and Child Abuse Registery Check must be provided prior to the commencement of the contract.

Work Status:

Temporary full time contract up to August 2023.

Hours of Work: 35 hours a week and must be willing to work a fexible work schedule.

Salary: $40,000 – 45,000 per annum.
