Delegates to discuss risks and alternatives to treatment and release of tailings

Indigenous leaders are meeting in Edmonton today to discuss the future of their water, and how to handle emerging risks posed by Alberta’s oilsands tailings ponds.

The Keepers of the Water and Mikisew Cree First Nation are hosting a two-day gathering, called The Tarsands Tailings Crisis: Protecting Our Water.

The focus is on protecting treaty rights, changes to tailings ponds management, and responding to the federal agreement with Alberta to advance a pipeline to the B.C. coast.
