Boost Your Rural Community with the FCC AgriSpirit Fund

Do you have a capital project that will enrich lives in your rural community? Farm Credit Canada is now accepting applications from registered charities, non-profit organizations and First Nations, Métis and Inuit governments/communities in rural Canada for the FCC AgriSpirit Fund.

The fund supports capital projects that enrich the lives of residents in communities with fewer than 50,000 people. There is a total of $1.5 million in funding available. Projects can receive between $10,000 and $25,000.

Application Intake Ends Soon

Don’t delay! The FCC AgriSpirit Fund application intake is now open, but your application must be received by May 15. FCC will announce the selected projects in the fall.

Examples of projects include greenhouses, community gardens and other agriculture and food-related initiatives, refrigeration and equipment to support food waste reduction and recovery, projects that improve accessibility and inclusion, or upgrades that reduce a building’s energy footprint.

Examples of Projects that May Qualify

  • Construction of or upgrades to community buildings
  • Initiatives that support agriculture and food
  • Projects that reduce your environmental footprint
  • Projects that improve accessibility and inclusion
  • Projects to support food recovery or reduction of food waste

Applicant Threshold

  • Charities registered with the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Non-profit organizations who partner with a municipal body, territorial or provincial government; Non-profit organizations who partner with First Nations, Inuit or Métis governments/communities; the municipal body or government/community must agree to receive contributed money.
  • Town, city, rural municipality, or First Nations, Inuit or Métis government/community under 50,000 people
  • Applicants that have not received support through the FCC AgriSpirit Fund in the past five years
  • Note: FCC employees and their immediate family members cannot apply on behalf of an organization

Eligible Projects

  • Recognize FCC’s contribution
  • Must be completed within two years of receiving funding with documented proof
  • Are capital projects that enrich the lives of community residents in communities of less than 50,000
  • Successfully pass FCC’s background check

Not Eligible for Funding

  • Operating budgets or debt reduction campaigns
  • Fundraising for a charity through private foundations or third parties (Lion’s Club, Knights of Columbus, etc.) unless funds are directed to a specific capital project for which FCC receives recognition for the donation
  • Individual projects or interests
  • Initiatives that benefits members of a religion or political party.
  • Daycare, private school or preschool
  • Projects that adversely impact the environment
  • For-profit entity
  • political group or organization directed by an elected federal official
  • Communities of over 50,000
  • Initiatives located outside of Canada
  • Sports teams or equipment purchase

Other Criteria for Ineligibility

Your organization is also not eligible if you have received FCC AgriSpirit Funding in the past five years, or if you do not pass FCC’s necessary background check.
