Press Release
Jun 12, 2026
Minister of Energy and Minerals Brian Jean is travelling to Japan and South Korea to grow Alberta’s energy and minerals partnerships in key Asia-Pacific markets.
Minister Jean’s bilateral meetings in Tokyo and Seoul will provide the opportunity to validate Alberta’s position as the long-term, reliable energy supplier these countries are looking for.
From June 15-18, Minister Jean will meet with Japanese and South Korean stakeholders to promote Alberta’s responsible energy sector and the role the province can play in a secure global energy future. Targeted discussions on the proposed pipeline to Canada’s west coast will reinforce the province’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and market access.
“Nations around the world are searching for a dependable energy partner to reduce exposure to supply disruption and price volatility. I believe Alberta, with our vast reserves, strong regulation and high standards, is the natural solution and best choice for a global partnership.”
Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals
This trip comes at a time when Alberta is working to increase export capacity and market access in all directions, including west to Asia. This goal is supported by the Alberta-Ottawa Memorandum of Understanding, which identifies an Indigenous co-owned Alberta oil pipeline to Asian markets as a project of national interest. Minister Jean will also be highlighting opportunity in our natural gas sector and the many related products like propane that are in high demand in Asia.
Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
