Group of First Nations leaders prepared for litigation if 2 treaties in B.C. are ratified as drafted
Tensions have been rising around two treaties in B.C. that neighbouring First Nations say could impact their traditional territory, prompting some to suggest the treaty process in the province needs to be improved.
Last week, a group of First Nations leaders gathered in Victoria to express their concern over two treaty bills: Bill 20, the K’omoks Treaty Act, and Bill 21, the Kitselas Treaty Act.
They said they’re prepared to head to court if the treaties are ratified as currently drafted, citing concerns about overlapping territory.
