Calgary Pre-trades Electrician Training Program

Press Release

June 18, 2025

The demand for electricians in Alberta is on the rise, driven by a robust construction sector, ongoing infrastructure projects, and a significant need for skilled tradespeople. With approximately 19,000 electricians employed in the province, Alberta anticipates creating 350 new positions annually through 2025, alongside numerous opportunities arising from retirements and workforce turnover.

In response to this growing demand, we are excited to offer a comprehensive pre-trades electrician training program for First Nations people in Calgary and Treaty 7 Nations. This is an exciting collaboration with Aboriginal Futures Career & Training Centre, Community Futures Treaty 7, and the Electrical Industry Training Centres of Alberta. Our program is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and certifications to start a career in Alberta’s dynamic electrical industry.

This program will run from September 15, 2025 to December 19, 2025.

Participants will be given the opportunity to:

  • Learn essential skills to succeed in the trades.
  • Be academically prepared for the electrician apprenticeship entrance exam.
  • Gain extensive hands-on experience with electrical shop projects.
  • Receive support as needed throughout the program to ensure successful program completion.
  • Be given a tool kit and receive support for finding employment at graduation.
