THE POSITION
Reporting directly to the Health Program Manager, and working in cooperation with the STC Community Addictions Program Coordinator, the Community Addictions Prevention Program (CAPP) Worker is responsible for carrying out the duties as outlined herein.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to the Personnel Policy Manual as set out by the Yellow Quill First Nation Chief and Council;
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times;
- Must understand, support and participate in the community enhancement initiatives in Working towards the vision of Yellow Quill First Nation which improves the quality of life;
- Plan a monthly activity calendar and give a copy to the Health Program Manager and report
- Any calendar changes;
- Attend health staff meetings;
- Co-ordinate and provide pre-treatment and assessment services
- Provide individual or group counseling as needed or as referred;
- Provide referrals as necessary;
- Facilitate an intervention group as needed to formulate a plan to meet and discuss with the client who is displaying problems with an addiction, in an effort to get the individual to agree to get help and take action to deal with the addiction;
- Assist with crisis counseling during and/or after a crisis incident involving addictions, as required;
- Provide follow-up and aftercare services;
- Coordinate and provide educational and prevention programs;
- Develop a strong working relationship with outside agencies;
- Establish and maintain contact with community Elders and cultural awareness resources to assist with the implementation of services in the community;
- Assist in providing community members of all ages with alternative positive and healthy activities;
- Assess the need for and interest in support groups, and coordinate the support groups as necessary;
- Prepare written reports and summaries of project activities;
- Maintain up to date and completed client files;
- Coordinate annual events (e.9. National Addictions Awareness Week, etc.);
- Attend and contribute to the regularly scheduled STC CAPP meetings;
- Seek additional funding through grants and fund raising activities to enhance the CAPP Program;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Health Program Manager within the scope of duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Chemical Addiction Dependency Diploma/Certificate or equivalent training.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in the addictions field or another related field.
- Minimum of three years of continuous sobriety.
- Experience with individual, family and group counseling.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
- Experience with program planning and development.
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
- Possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and meet the Community insurance requirements.
- Must have a clear current CPIC (Canadian Criminal Records Check), which identifies a vulnerable sectors check.
- Knowledge of computers.
- The ability to speak Saulteaux, an effective understanding of Saulteaux culture and Spirituality, and experience working with First Nations communities is preferred.
