Director of Health Services
Overview:
Reporting to the Millbrook Band Council and working collaboratively with the Band Administrator, the Director of Health Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Millbrook Health Centre and staff.
The Director of Health Services is responsible for the administration, coordination, planning and evaluation of the Programs and Services of the Millbrook Health Centre based on community health needs and priorities.
Typical Duties:
- Day-to-day representation of the Health Program. Developing relationships with various organization to enhance service delivery to Millbrook such as;
– First Nation & Inuit Health Branch
– Health departments of Nova Scotia
– Local pharmacies, physicians, dentists
– Regional hospitals and clinics
– Universities, schools and training institutions
– Health Directors from other First Nation communities
- Direct Administrative Supervision of Health Centre employees
- Coordination of reporting functions for the purposes of accountability, public relations, community awareness and/or general information about the Millbrook Health Centre Programs.
- Building a high level of communication, team spirit and cooperation among all Health program staff and affiliated professionals.
- Ensure the protection of Personal Health Information collected by the Health team members as required by any provincial or federal laws.
- Work with the Millbrook Band Administrator in planning and evaluating the health programs and services. Work in coordination with all other Band departments (particularly Education, Social Development) as appropriate.
- Assist with conflict resolution between staff and client Band members. Act as the first line of appeal for Band Members in interpretation of Health related policy and procedures.
- Oversee the delivery and administration of the integrated Home Care and Assisted Living Program
- Represent community needs to provincial and regional authorities as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post secondary degree in a health profession and/or extensive experience in the fields of health and/or band administration. Training in the National First Nation Health Managers Program would be an asset. Previous experience in supervision of staff is also an asset.

- Ability to act as an advocate for the Health Programs and the Health Centre clients with various levels of federal, provincial and aboriginal governments.
- Ability to problem solve in many different situations
- Public relations and public speaking skills to represent the Health Centre Programs and Services in appropriate venues.
- Knowledgeable of and respect for, cultural and community traditions and diversity
- Knowledge of information technology and computer skills.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Preference will be given to qualified Millbrook Band Members of Aboriginal descent.
