Workshop Purpose and Objectives
As First Nations implement their Land Codes, a variety of questions have arisen regarding how best to achieve their environmental and land use goals as well as the specific requirements of the Framework Agreement. To help answer these questions, the Lands Advisory Board Resource Centre (LABRC), in cooperation with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC), has organized a series of educational workshops.
The purpose of the workshops are to engage with representatives of Operational and Developmental First Nations who wish to share their experiences and learn more about environmental and land use planning specifically in the context of land code implementation in the following areas:
During the two-day workshop, participants will hear directly from other First Nations who are actively operating under their land codes and specialists who are working with operational First Nations on the foregoing topics. Participants will have an opportunity to learn from other First Nation’s experiences, and have an opportunity to discuss points of interest and ask questions. LABRC also will distribute, utilize, and seek comments on a draft version of A Brief Guide to Preparing Environmental Management Plans for Land Code First Nations.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be better informed to undertake their environmental and land governance responsibilities.
