Job Title: GIS Technician
Anticipated Start Date: January 9th, 2017
Location: Corner Brook, NL
Hours of Work: 35 hrs/week, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: $38,000.00 /per Annum.
Term Position: This is one year term position with the possibility of an extension.
Job Description and Requirements: Reporting to the Manager of Natural Resources, The GIS Technician will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and display of spatial data associated with various programs of Qalipu First Nation.
Responsibilities: The GIS Technician will be responsible for the development, implementation, and reporting of a wide range of projects. This position will include data collection, processing, analysis, and mapping of spatial data associated with the following:
Biological Research – Spatial data analysis, modelling, and mapping associated with various biological studies conducted by Qalipu Natural Resources.
Community/Youth Engagement – Traditional land use study and Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge Management.
Aboriginal Fisheries Guardian Program – GPS log management and review.
Environmental Monitoring – Assist with Environmental monitoring of various industrial developments on behalf of Qalipu First Nation / MAMKA.
Commercial Development – Assist with the preparation of bids and proposals for commercial development of the Natural Resources Division/MAMKA.
Large format printing services for Qalipu First Nation. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
University Degree or College diploma in Geographic Information Science (GIS) including relevant work experience.
Natural Resources Training in Biology, Ocean Sciences, Environmental Science, General
Science, or equivalent at a college or university level would be considered an asset.
Experience working with ESRI GIS software. Experience working with databases.
Cartographic experience including the production of professional quality maps.
Ability to work independently and supervise a team to complete tasks and reach goals on time.
A valid drivers license.
Working Conditions: This position is office based. The duties are predominantly met during regular business hours. Some overtime work may be required at specific times throughout the year.
