Press Release
The Government of Yukon’s Department of Health and Social Services has been recognized as a national leader for its progress towards reconciliation throughout the Yukon’s health and wellness systems.
In an article featured in the Hill Times, a Canadian digital and print news publication based in Ottawa, the department was highlighted alongside other notable organizations for its dedicated work towards implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Being the only provincial or territorial government included in the article is a testament to the Yukon’s commitment to advancing reconciliation and building stronger, more inclusive communities. This recognition reaffirms the Government of Yukon’s belief that reconciliation is not just a goal but an ongoing journey that requires collective effort and unwavering dedication.
At the heart of the Yukon’s reconciliation efforts are collaborative partnerships with First Nations, communities and health system partners. The contributions and guidance of partners across the territory, whose wisdom, knowledge and vision have shaped our approach to reconciliation, have been invaluable.
The Government of Yukon commends other organizations mentioned in the article, such as the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and the Union of BC Municipalities, for their leadership in reconciliation. Together, we can create a brighter future for all Canadians, grounded in truth, understanding and mutual respect.
We are honoured to be recognized for our efforts in reconciliation. This acknowledgment is a testament to the strength of partnerships with First Nations communities and the leadership they provide, as well as our other health care partners across the Yukon. Together, we are working towards a future where all individuals can access culturally safe, appropriate and responsive health care services.
