Premier Mike Pemberton, on behalf of the Government of Yukon, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Arctic Training Centre (ATC) to promote the Yukon as a global hub for Arctic operational expertise and technology development.
This agreement sets forth the terms and understanding between the Government of Yukon and the Arctic Training Centre to advance economic and technology development in northern Canada. This partnership aims to leverage ATC’s unique private facility and expertise to attract global technology partners, foster innovation and create enduring economic opportunities for Yukoners and the greater north.
This MOU is intended to serve as a foundation for ongoing collaboration, with regular reviews and updates as necessary to meet shared objectives and respond to emerging opportunities. By supporting northern-led innovation, the Yukon can position itself as a strategic leader in Arctic technology and expertise, attracting global partners and opportunities that benefit the territory’s economy and communities.
Next steps will focus on establishing a dedicated Yukon office to strengthen local presence and coordination, actively promoting the Arctic Training Centre’s site as a versatile hub for a wide range of training opportunities and deepening collaboration and engagement with partners and stakeholders. These efforts will help ensure the partnership continues to drive innovation, economic growth and capacity building in the Yukon and the broader northern region.
This agreement with the Arctic Training Centre opens up meaningful opportunities for Yukoners through new initiatives in Arctic technology and security. Arctic security is an important priority for the Yukon, especially given the current global climate. By making the most of our unique geographic and strategic position, we can continue to invest, innovate and find northern-led solutions that strengthen the security and resilience of our territory.
Premier Mike Pemberton
The Yukon’s entrepreneurial spirit and the collaboration of its communities have been instrumental in shaping the vision of the Arctic Training Centre. Our strong relationship with the Yukon government and its people ensures that this work is rooted in partnership and purpose. We chose to build the ATC in the north, for the north – as a hub for technology validation and training, stepping forward with confidence, positioning us to make a rapid and outsized contribution to northern communities, Canadian and allied security and defence initiatives.
