Grand Council Treaty #3 extends congratulations to Elder Fred Kelly on being named a recipient of the 2026 Indspire Lifetime Achievement Award.
A respected Midewewin Elder from Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Elder Fred Kelly has dedicated his life to advancing the rights, healing, languages, teachings, and well-being of Indigenous Peoples. His leadership and advocacy have had a lasting impact throughout Treaty #3 and across Canada.
Elder Fred previously served as Grand Chief of Grand Council Treaty #3 and Chief of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation. Throughout his lifelong service, he has remained deeply committed to strengthening Anishinaabe governance, sharing traditional teachings, and supporting healing and reconciliation for future generations.
“Elder Fred Kelly has dedicated his life to uplifting our people through leadership, wisdom, and ceremony,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “This recognition reflects the tremendous impact he has had on our Nation and Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. We are deeply grateful for the guidance, knowledge, and teachings he continues to share with our communities.”
Grand Council Treaty #3 honours Elder Fred Kelly for this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued guidance and service to the Anishinaabe Nation.
