Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council is pleased to announce its photo competition for International Women Day 2016. ‘Celebrating Nunavut’s Women in Community Action’ recognizes that women and girls are heavily involved in community initiatives in diverse ways. Through their action and work, women’s role in community growth and development has become increasingly important. Women organize to secure social change that enhances the quality of life for individuals in a community.
This Photo Competition is looking for images of groups of women engaged in community action. For example:
o Family Group – mother, daughter, grandmother and aunties
o Volunteer Group – women/girls cooking at the soup kitchen, or helping at the food bank
o Sports Group – women/girls playing sports or leading sports events
o Choirs of women/girls
o Sewing groups of women/girls
o Study groups of women/girls
o Women/girls fishing or berry picking together
o Women/girls working together for the benefit of their community
For more information please contact the Qulliit office in Iqaluit. Open to all Nunavummiut. First prize $1,000, second prize $500 and third prize $250. The photos will be on exhibition at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum in Iqaluit from March 8 to March 27, 2016.
