Considering the cascading crises that have enveloped his office over the last 36 hours — the revelation that his finance minister accepted — albeit accidentally, as per the minister — $40,000 in travel expenses from WE Charity, which is currently at the centre of a sprawling controversy over a now-nixed deal to administer nearly a billion dollars in federal funding, for one, as well as growing pressure to investigate new allegations that Governor General Julie Payette, “has created a ‘toxic’ workplace” at Rideau Hall — it’s not surprising that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning on spending the day ensconced in what his official itinerary describes as “private meetings.”

He may also be planning on starting the prep work for next week, when he’s expected to make an already hotly anticipated appearance before the House finance committee to field questions on the WE Charity controversy alongside his chief of staff, Katie Telford.
