Press Release
22 May 2024 – It’s that time of year folks! Break out your bell-bottoms and get ready to boogie because the 27th Ottawa Fringe Festival is hitting the scene! From June 13th to June 23rd, Ottawa will be the ultimate destination for all things funky and fabulous as local, national, and international artists gather to showcase their groovy talents.
With a mind-blowing lineup of 50 shows and over 300 performances, this year’s festival is set to be a psychedelic extravaganza. Whether you’re into drama, comedy, musicals, or improv, the Ottawa Fringe has your vibe covered! This year, we’re spreading the love across more venues, bringing back last year’s venues: Arts Court Theatre, ODD Box, LabO, Studio 1201, and Atelier Theatre. We’re also fring up the time machine and bringing back two performance spaces at La Nouvelle Scène. And guess what? Introducing a brand-new BYOV venue, the DARC Microcinema. Can you dig it?
Here’s a sneak peek of the vibes this year at the Ottawa Fringe. Our Open Doors mentorship program hosts Fenton Ho’s On the Verge of Whiteness, a thought-provoking nod to Waiting for Godot that delves into themes of the “Chinese Exclusion Act” (Ottawa, Ontario). A crowd favorite, UNSUNG: The Accidental Villains of History, by the Duck and Roll Theatre, is returning after sold out performances at last year’s fringe (Toronto, Ontario). All the way from Australia, Shane Adamczak and Sam Longley take us on a wild ride in Vehicle, where they share chaotic tales of the troubles and triumphs of touring (Perth, Australia). Jessica Pigeau’s How to Lose Friends and Irritate People is sure to provoke laughs as the champion of social awkwardness navigates relationships with others and her environment (Vancouver, BC). Looking for more? Be sure to check out our show listings at ottawafringe.com/shows. It’s going to be outta sight!
But wait, the fun doesn’t stop there! The Fringe Courtyard at Club SAW is getting a far-out makeover with our FREE programming thanks to the support of the Donner Canadian Foundation. Get ready to mingle before, between, or after shows, and groove to events happening almost every night of the festival. This year, we are honored to host a variety of events refecting the wonderful diversity Ottawa has to offer. From How Queer: A Night of Burlesque’ a returning hit from our undercurrents festival, to our collaboration with Cranium Festival, honoring black culture and music on our stages, to ‘QiGongidaa!, a grounding clown performance from Hilary Wear as ‘Gnabby Boomer,’ celebrating their indigenous heritage, this
year we truly have something for everyone. So dust off your disco shoes, grab your Fringe pin, and get ready to groove to the beat of Fringe Vibes Only!
