Manager, Family Well-Being Full-time, Term Employment until March 31, 2022 Possibility of extension

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Manager, Family Well-being provides managerial oversight for TI’s Family Well-being program for children, youth and families of Ontario which is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Service (MCCSS). This initiative promotes the healthy development of relationships, and the cultural, physical, and mental well-being of children, youth, and families. The incumbent will oversee TI’s Violence against Women (VAW) family-related programs and services, the Youth Life Promotion program, the Youth Opportunities Fund program as well as the Youth in Transition Worker program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising program staff and establishing annual objectives, training and work plans that are consistent with Inuit culture, language, and traditions;
  • Ensuring program reporting is completed and on time;
  • Providing guidance for counseling and referral of families as identified;
  • Overseeing the planning and implementation of programming including purchasing of materials and supplies;
  • Providing the framework and guidance for delivering client workshops and activities;
  • Responding to the varying needs of families (such as health, risk factors and nutrition);
  • Overseeing the implementation of protocols which maintain activity spaces;
  • Following TI’s policies and procedures and current best practices;
  • Administration tasks including but not limited to; staff scheduling and leave approval, ensuring quality of services (soliciting client feedback and addressing client concerns), participant and service data gathering, record keeping and file maintenance;
  • Working in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risks for clients, employees, and the organization; and
  • Participating in meetings, training, and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have familiarity of the issues facing Inuit families, the socio-economic landscape as it pertains to Inuit and knowledge of Inuit culture, values, traditional practices, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and have commitment to a client-centered approach when working with Inuit.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, supervisory/leadership skills, and computer literacy skills (word processing programs, email, internet) are necessary.

The ability to function effectively in a busy environment and in stressful situations, work independently with a strong sense of focus, develop, and deliver programming, work independently with a strong sense of focus, and work occasional evenings and weekends are all requirements of the position.

Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma in human services, social work or similar is preferred. Must have a minimum of three years’ experience working in a social services environment. Work experience should include delivering family-related services to the Inuit community, working with children, youth, and families at risk for VAW related issues, group facilitation and supervising and directing staff. Fluency in English is required and the ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.

A combination of related education and experience may be accepted.
