A team of Métis women athletes is preparing to compete on one of the biggest stages in Indigenous hockey while using their platform to advocate for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP). Representing their communities at the 2026 Fred Sasksamoose National Championships in Saskatoon this May from the 14-16 at the Merlis Belsher Place. The team is also seeking sponsors to help cover travel and expenses as they continue their work in sport, mentorship and advocacy.
Jayden Draney of the Métis Nation Women’s Team tells CFWE the invitation is a high honor, saying the chance to compete at the Fred Saskamoose National Championships is a major milestone.
