Morning Brief: Count down to vote over contentious committee – iPolitics

All eyes in Ottawa are on the political game of chicken that’s playing out in Parliament over a proposed anti-corruption committee, with a vote expected later today after question period.

“The prime minister is not looking for solutions here; the prime minister is looking for an excuse to go to an election,” says NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, the key player in how the vote will go down.

Pressed on where his party will side in the vote over the controversial motion to set up a committee, which threatens causing an election, he did not say. CTV’s Mackenzie Gray tweeted that an NDP source told him the party may abstain from a vote, should they not reach some sort of deal with the Liberals. If that’s the case, it could result in some interesting parliamentary math.
