Press Release
THUNDER BAY, ON: The Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Executive Council, Elders, youth and First Nations across NAN territory will join together to celebrate NAN Day of Prayer and Honour tomorrow with a live radio broadcast and gathering with students at Dennis Franklin Cromarty high school.
“We follow this tradition by joining in prayer for the spiritual strength and healing of our communities,” said Deputy Grand Chief Terry Waboose. “We also give thanks for all the guidance and strength on our journey to create a better future for ourselves and our children.”
An annual event, NAN Day of Prayer and Honour is an opportunity for the people of Nishnawbe Aski to unite in spirit and song with a radio broadcast across NAN territory on the Wawatay Radio Network. A moment of silence will be observed in remembrance of those we have lost to addictions, violence and other tragedies as well as all of our loved ones.
Schedule of Events (all times EST):
NAN Day of Prayer was established by Chiefs-in-Assembly in 1997 to set aside one day each year for community healing. It is a proactive way to recognize and reaffirm the special relationship the Nishnawbe Aski people have with the Creator and with the land, and to acknowledge the strength, resiliency and gifts of our people.
Note: Media are welcome to attend any of the activities.
