Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie stated today that NTI Members and Board of Directors have in place a Code of Conduct Policy for Board of Directors and a Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy for Members to govern the conduct of its Members and Directors.
The policies state that NTI Members and Directors are to:
promote the rights and opportunities of the Inuit of Nunavut as a whole, and fair treatment of disadvantaged groups within the Inuit population, while respecting the dignity of every person and avoiding discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, or mental or physical disability.
“NTI as an organization and I myself as an individual have always supported the rights and struggles of all disadvantaged groups in our society,” said Towtongie. “At NTI, we always promote an atmosphere of inclusivity, acceptance and tolerance.”
Towtongie said her earlier comment on the rainbow flag issue was made in the context of commending an Elder to speak out on difficult and sensitive issues, and the needs in our democratic society to discuss these issues.
