DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the long range planning, development, leadership and budget control of the operation of the school;
- Provide leadership, guidance and direction to teaching, paraprofessional and support staff;
- Responsible for financial administration of the school including preparing annual budgets and providing regular financial reports, writing grants to support the school and financial duties as laid out in the Special Services Agreement with Saskatoon Tribal Council STC) and the Individual Shared Services Initiatives (ISSI) with MFNCS, STC, SRPSD, Ministry;
- Develop and implement long and short range goals and objectives for the school year;
- Ensure school year calendar, term class schedules and the Saskatchewan Curriculum are followed;
- Develop and implement a public relations strategy that increases community awareness of the school and its programs;
- Ensure that the school extra-curricular programs (sports, recreational or cultural activities) are active and comprehensive;
- Follow the policies and procedures of the MFN/MFNCS and, attend any and all policy revision meetings as set by the MFNCS Education Authority;
- Oversee Operations & Maintenance; Busing for MFNCS & the MFN High School buses.
- Evaluate all education staff in accordance with the MFNCS Personnel Policy Manual, complete and issue contracts;
- Complete all required reports and records of all transactions/statistics.
- Attend monthly principal meetings in Saskatoon with STC and the two day yearly STC Strategic Planning;
- Participate in the Community Violence Elimination Initiatives/Committee;
- Attend committee meetings to include: Kis?w?tot?towin Partnership (SRPSD, STC, MFNCS), Ministry Meetings (ISSI), monthly Managers meetings (MFN Band Office), Cultural Meetings (Elders Lodge); Transition Meetings, Special Education Meetings with INAC; monthly MFNCS Education Authority meetings; interview committee.
- Attend community events, after school activity events and other events in which the principal is expected to be present;
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience with administration of a First Nation school system;
- Experience with budget control/finances, school policies, student safety standards and human resource management;
- Familiarity with the MFNCS tipi teachings, Virtues, Perceptual Control Theory and Circle of Courage projects;
- Familiarity with First Nations Student Success Program, Education Partnership Program, New Paths program;
- Dynamic, outgoing individual with a passion for student success;
- Strong team player with a commitment to work with community members, education committee, all stakeholders & partners and parents;
- High level of interpersonal skills with an ability to resolve conflicts objectively and with understanding;
- High level of written and oral communication skills;
- Solid work ethic and flexibility when the occasion arises;
- Possess an appreciation for the desires and aspirations of First Nation people and empathy for First Nation children;
- Facility with Plains Cree language is a definite asset.
- Required experience: 5 years in School Administration
- Required license or certification: Saskatchewan Professional ‘A’ Teaching Certificate
- Required education: Bachelor’s of Education Degree
- Masters of Education or Post-Graduate training in Curriculum / Programming / Instruction and/or Administration;
