Public Notice – Technical Guidance for Assessing Current Use of Lands and Resources for Traditional Purposes

December 16, 2015 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) today issued draft Technical Guidance on Current Use of Lands and Resources for Traditional Purposes under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012).

The Agency invites members of the public, Aboriginal groups and EA practitioners, to provide comments on the draft Technical Guidance. Written comments should be submitted to the Agency at CEAA.guidance-orientation.ACEE@ceaa-acee.gc.ca by June 16, 2016. Comments will be reviewed and considered in finalizing the Technical Guidance.

Under CEAA 2012, the environmental assessment of a designated project must take into account the effects of any changes to the environment on current use of lands and resources for traditional purposes. It supports the Agency’s commitment to promote and support meaningful public and Aboriginal participation in environmental assessments.

The Technical Guidance is intended to support proponents in the development of their Environmental Impact Statement.
