FREDERICTON – The recipients of the sixth annual VIVE Awards, which celebrate efforts to advance gender equality in New Brunswick, were announced today by Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for women and gender equity.
The awards recognize individuals and organizations making meaningful contributions to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
“Achieving lasting change requires collective action and a shared commitment to equity,” said Boudreau. “Today, let us make the invisible visible by celebrating together those whose leadership and efforts are driving progress and paving the way for a more inclusive New Brunswick.”
This year’s recipients are:
· Youth Champion – Jovial Orlachi Osundu of Moncton
· Community Champion – Joanna Owuor of Fredericton
· Business Champion – O Strategies of Moncton
· Everyday Champion – Mary Matilda ‘Tilley’ Winslow of Woodstock (posthumous)
· Government Champions – Kelley McIntyre and Mary Henderson, both of Quispamsis
· Indigenous Champion – Miigam’agan of Esgenoôpetitj (Burnt Church) First Nation
The School of the Year Award was presented to Sugarloaf Senior High School of Campbellton for its outstanding student participation in the International Women’s Day contest.
Certificates of recognition were also awarded to six students for their exceptional insights and commitment to advancing gender equality:
· Mia Falconer and Lily Howell – École des Bâtisseurs
· Cate MacLeod – Kennebecasis Valley High School
· Jeremi Caplin-Lavoie – Sugarloaf Senior High School
· Fannie Fournier – Centre scolaire communautaire Samuel-de-Champlain
· Hannah Verheyen – Fredericton High School
“The pursuit of gender equality demands sustained commitment and leadership,” said Boudreau. “We are proud to recognize these recipients who are actively working to build a stronger and more equitable province for everyone.”
Nominations for the 2027 VIVE Awards will open in September.
