Press Release
May 5, 2025
Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:
“Today marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week, nationally observed from May 5 to 11. This year, the Canadian Mental Health Association is asking Canadians to reflect on ‘Unmasking Mental Health’, a theme that speaks to the importance of honesty, vulnerability and breaking down stigma.
“Living with mental health issues can be challenging; masking these struggles can make it even harder. Stigma can isolate individuals and prevent them from seeking the support they need. This week, we are encouraged to look beyond the surface to truly see and hear one another, and to foster deeper connections built on openness and trust.
“Our government remains committed to supporting Yukoners’ mental health and wellbeing. Through ongoing investments in mental wellness services, rapid access to counselling, harm reduction initiatives and collaborative partnerships with organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association – Yukon Division, we are working to create a community where everyone feels supported and has access to the services they need.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the health care providers, advocates, families and community organizations who continue to work with care and dedication while providing mental health supports to Yukoners. Your work is critical to building safe, compassionate communities.
“A comprehensive network of support is available in the Yukon and I encourage anyone in need of help to access the following services.
“This week, I encourage all Yukoners to take part in Mental Health Awareness Week activities, to reflect on the role of stigma in our communities and to commit to fostering understanding, acceptance and connection. Every conversation and every act of compassion helps to create a stronger, healthier Yukon for all.”
