Reporting to:                        School Principal

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

Provide tutoring instruction for students on individual education programs.

Assist students with lessons that have previously been taught by the teacher.

Assist the classroom teacher or methods and resource educator in the preparation of materials for special programs and lessons.

Attend staff or special education meetings to discuss progress and problems of students, as required.

Assist the guidance assistant or counselor in the implementation of behavior modification plans for certain students

Supervise students during recess and/or dinner as required.

Monitor students on busses as they travel to and from school.

May be required to assist in an IEP meeting regarding a student in their care.

Maintain professionalism and ensure confidentiality in all matters concerning students.

Competency and Skills

• Thorough knowledge of the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (students and staff)
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work as part of an educational team
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Passion for education
• Proficiency in Mi’gmaq

Education and /or Experience: College Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
