District of Tofino Releases Annual Report
TOFINO, B.C. – The District of Tofino is pleased to present the community of Tofino with the 2019 Annual Municipal Report. The report provides an overview of key initiatives and accomplishments in each District department, and presents the 2019 year-end financial statements. Council will consider the Annual Report and submissions and questions from the public at its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom.
The report includes statistics and information about some of Tofino’s key services and projects in an easy-to-read and (hopefully) engaging format. Data and figures include bylaw enforcement calls, business licencing, development and construction totals, recreation programming, emergency exercises and activations, and more. New to the report this year is a page dedicated to the Tofino Housing Corporation, detailing proposed projects at 700 Sharp Road and DL114.
Projects and initiatives highlighted in the 2019 Annual Municipal Report include:
- Substantial grant funding awarded to the District, including $40,264,769 from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program to make improvements to Tofino’s existing wastewater collection system and help fund construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, as well as $1,192,944 in provincial RMI funding to upgrade and invest in community tourism assets and programming.
- Policy initiatives and regulatory changes such as Zoning Bylaw Updates, Cannabis Retail TUP policy, a Multi-Modal Transportation Plan, and Single-Use Item Regulation Bylaw.
- Emergency Operations Centre activations and training exercises and completion of the Coastal Flood Risk Assessment and Tsunami and Evacuation Modelling.
- Capital projects such as the beginning of Tofino’s Multi Use Path extension to Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, First Street Dock repairs, and completion of a new playground at Tofino’s Village Green park.
