Unite Treaty Six Chiefs Convention – Postponement announcement

Press Release

Attention Treaty No. 6 Chiefs across our respective sovereign territory,

We at the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations want to bring you important information on the upcoming “Unite Treaty Six Chiefs Convention” which has been planned for November 3-5, 2020 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch Cree Nation. Over the past week, we have seen increasing COVID-19 cases in the Edmonton area and understandably, our communities and many Nations are concerned for their citizen’s safety. These cases are rising in our Nations and we need to protect our peoples as well as our leadership.

Therefore, be advised that we are postponing the Treaty Six Chiefs Convention until 2021. We want to assure you the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations remains committed to uniting our Chiefs across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as this convention serves as a space for the Treaty Six Nations to come together across provincial boundaries and to collaborate dialogue on issues and opportunities regarding Treaty Governance.

Strengthening the unification of our Treaty Territory is priority and we will keep your Nations well informed on the future dates for the “Unite Treaty Six Chiefs Convention”. In the meantime, this gives us the opportunity for more direction to be given by the Chiefs on key priorities to be included.

Please contact Andre Bear, Treaty Six Chiefs Liaison @ andre.bear@treatysix.org if you have any comments, concerns or questions.

Wishing you and your Nations health & safety in this time,

Grand Chief William (Billy) Morin
